So, I have a few questions!

1) What are some good vitamins, past normal multi-vitamins, for keeping hair healthy?

2) What are some treatments I can use to moisturize it? Like, natural stuff.

3) What are the best, store brand (Walmart, Target, etc) hair shampoos?

I have extremely thick, brown hair with curls into lose curls. There is minimum fizz, and normally only when it is not completely dry. I don't do anything with it, past put it in pony tails and braid it. I don't even brush it.

Thanks!

Hair Friends!

I was debating the merits of cranberry soda versus cherry soda when a woman approaches me.

"do you live around here?"
(she's too old to be hitting on me without this being especially awkward, she doesn't look like anyone in my collective, she's speaking english, which crosses out a whole segment of my social sector. who is this woman?)
"yups!"
"How do you do your hair? The water here is dreadful. You must know, you keep it so long."

We then spent the next fifteen minutes discussing clarifying treatments, apple cider vinegar, and what to do about our terrible hard, mineral-y water here before parting ways.

Has you hair made you any friends or enemies?

Sooo...

This is probably kind of a backwards question to ask here, but I thought it was worth a shot! You ladies (and mens) are the hair experts!

Well, after 3+ years of people telling him to cut his hair, my husband finally caved in and cut all 16 inches (~41 cm) of his beautiful hair off! (It makes me, someone his is growing her hair out, feel sad that his envied, wavy, golden brown locks are no more, but happy because now my hair feels longer! :P)

Anyway, do you guys know of any reliable place (online or otherwise) that will BUY hair?

petal love

So, my landlord is nancy drew.

After I came down to find Petal gone, I called the cops. My landlord informed us that there is video surveillance of the building. it was something: more than most have when a bike gets stolen. He had to call the company to get the tape. Everything is digital now, after all. The reason that my landlord has video is that he owns the bodega on the corner. This business also means that he has a pretty good feel for this part of the Brooklyn. Starting that sad Saturday, my landlord began asking store patrons: "Hey. Do you know anyone with a green bike for sale? I know this girl. She just loves those old bicycles. A girl bike. She'll pay anything." People often come in trying to sell him things, so he knew who to start questioning. He'd been calling me pretty regularly to give me updates. We were still waiting for Friday night's video to be reviewed by the surveillance company. On Monday, he calls, but I don't pick up. I was making zine photocopies and figured I'd just call him back. He leaves a message: "Some guy, eh, maybe he has a bike like you like, you know. come look." He calls back, again, and I figure I should pick up this time. He'd gone to the back of the bodega to phone me: "Come now, get here now. Your bike is here. Call the cops. Have them meet you." I get in a car and give the driver $10.

When I walk into the bodega, Petal is inside, by the door. "That's my bike!"

I pick her up and take her home.

It's no small miracle.

Swim caps

  • Jul. 9th, 2009 at 2:37 AM
Okay, so.

I LOVE to swim. I wanted to be a mermaid when I was a little girl. :D

But, I worry about chlorine damage.

Here's my problem.

My hair is almost long enough for me to sit on, and given that I'm 5'9" (175 cm) tall, that's a lot. It is fine (as in the individual strands are thin) but thick (as in there's a metric crapton of it).

I also have a freaking huge skull. :) (I'm not kidding. I'm just not a small person, and that extends to my head size.)

I would like to get a swim cap to protect my hair as much as I can, but I'm a little concerned about ordering one online because if I bought one and put it on my head and it didn't fit (because of the combined size of my skull and amount of my hair), I don't think I could return it.

Does anybody know of a good swim cap for long hair and a big head? I would mostly be doing aqua aerobics and recreational swimming, not joining a competitive swim team or anything like that. Not hideously expensive would be nice, but I'd rather spend a little more money on a cap I can actually use than waste money on a cap that doesn't fit my monster noggin. :P

Last month, we reported on Stephen Colbert’s selfless — and momentarily cute — journey to entertain the troops in Iraq, where he made the ultimate sacrifice: Agreeing to have his head shaved.

And what became of the hair, may you ask?

Hair Product Question

  • Jul. 8th, 2009 at 7:57 PM

So I've just switch from using Biolage (booo) to Giovanni (yay). So far I can tell a HUGE difference in my hair from getting away from all  -cone in my conditioner and SLS in my shampoo, I'm proud to say I hardly have any frizz now. I just had a few questions though....

Although Giovanni is a GREAT organic brand..... is here still harm ingredients in the products?
Below are the ingredients to the products in which I use, so it would be SUPER helpful if anyone can point out any bad ingredients that I need to avoid.

Now For The Question! )

Pancakes!

  • Jul. 8th, 2009 at 6:48 PM
Mmmmmm ...  One of the lovely things about being a grown-up is eating whatever you damn well please for dinner.

I have totally been craving blueberry buttermilk pancakes.  Not from any restaurant or cafe ... but the ones *I* make.  I haven't had time (for one reason or another) to make them in the morning (weekday or weekend).   We've gone through the majority of our fresh veggies I bought earlier this week.  And it cooled off quite a bit today - NOT beastly hot - perfect for making flapjacks.

Yummy yummy ....   ^_^

I am going to have pretty sporadic internet access for the remainder of July. I'll be online most every day, but won't have time to read all the posts.
So poof...you're all mods. In an officially unofficial way. :)

In the off-chance that the poo starts flying, please send me an LJ message. (And don't help throw, needless to say.) If someone wants to nominate a post for memories (tutorials and toys, mostly), send me a message. I'll be back to my usual vigilance next month.
I just want to tell you all: good luck. We're all counting on you. :)

I've been growing it for a year now. I want it a little bit past my waist--not anymore, though. I think a year and a half is more than enough time.
