Wishful thinking

Last week, while browsing the sales, I hear this mother-daughter couple discussing the cuts of various jeans. They're both very blah, quite bottom-heavy and the daughter is the sort of girl who insists on wearing clothes that are both unflattering and way too tight for her.

Mother (picking up a pair of skinny jeans) : what kind of cut do you think it is ?
Daughter : it's the latest cut (yeah, latest if you haven't been out of your cave for 3 years or so)
Mother : I'm not sure about those...

Mother and daughter then see me picking one up, since I already own the very same pair (which adorns my butt at the time) and just love it and this one happens to be 50% off.

Me, volunteering information : I have those jeans on. Narrow leg, waist is, err, normal, neither high, now low rise.

Daughter : oh, I see. I'm going to get a pair. That's a nice cut, very flattering, makes one look slimmer I guess.

Ouch. Looks like your typical case of wishful thinking. I've heard countless others buying stuff that looked WAY too small (but, eh, they're going to lose weight), too young, too unflattering... I wonder why women are such masochists when it comes to dressing. It's funny, because I always tend to buy clothes that are too big. I always assume I won't fit in the size I'm supposed to wear...

More sales loot...

Being a cheap bastard has its perks... I found some more great stuff at H&M yesterday evening, including a pink, leopard print, fuzzy Hello Kitty robe that's so over the top it's amazing.

The older I get, the harder it's for me to spend my dough on clothes. I love fashion, I adore clothes, I have a huge wardrobe, plus a big box of clothes under my bed, shoes in three different closets, etc. but I refuse to spend a fortune on something because it's a famous brand.

And anyway, I've tried to convince myself that I can look good in something cheap as long as it's my style. So far, it works.

Oh, well, ok, I paid more for a Clinique eyeshadow (on sale !!!) than on a third pair of skinny jeans, but I have a sensitive skin, whereas my butt is ok as long as it's got something on that fits.

New shoes !

The first day of the sales was productive to say the least. For unknown reasons (maybe the Sales Divinities were smiling on me), H&M had *everything* I wanted in my size. Usually, they have a very limited stock of size 34/XS in the first place, but not this time...

I found two skinny jeans, two Hello Kitty bras and a HK nightie, a little black dress, a Marimekko for H&M bag and a belted jacket. Pics available on my Flick'r.

I've also bought those darling red shoes. Because I love shoes. Because they're no such thing as too many shoes.

This was only a sales test run. I shall return. Tonight.

Yes, it's *that time* of the year again. Summer sales are starting tomorrow.

But... Since we're redecorating our office, buying some new matching desks & chairs, etc., I've promised myself to be a frugal shopper. Which means I won't buy duplicates of things I already have, things that look cool in the store but I know I won't wear, t-shirts (I have a monster collection of tees) or fun stuff for the house.

I'm currently emptying my office of everything I won't keep. My friend Pouic just came by and left with three bags of stuff and I've got a cartload of books I'll bring to the Red Cross later today. And while I'm at it, I'm going to sort out my yarn & fabric stash.

It's funny how I used to be into hoarding, collecting & accumulating and I've turned into *almost* the opposite. I now have a love for empty, clean walls, shelves with only a few chosen items & perfectly organised closets.

In 10 years or so, I might be able of carrying out my plan for a zen-like flat.

I'm thinning out my Blythe collection... My girls live in a casually smoking environment, but they're locked in a glass cabinet, so they don't have any nasty smells I can detect.

Please make me an offer for my Picca. She's the Limited edition, not the Encore. She's in mint condition, I can't see any flaw. She hasn't been customised in any way, but I've washed her hair a couple of times. She's sold nude, but with the red Blythe bag that was sold along with the doll.

Make me an offer for my custom PWP. Poohie has customised her. She's sanded her face, added pastel make-up, repainted the lips and gave her a razored layered cut. This doll is a stunner, my photos don't do her justice but you can see better pics there :

She's also sold nude. Her head hasn't been opened, so she's in very good condition.

You can make an offer by e-mail at : ANXIA (AT) ALICEADSL (DOT) FR.

Thanks for looking !

I've been sorting out my girls' clothing. I'm going to sell a LOT of vintage Skipper and Licca stuff in the upcoming weeks, as well as a few dolls.

I've also decided to pack the dolls I don't play with but don't want to sell in order to have a more manageable collection that won't make me feel overwhelmed. I want to be able to enjoy Blythe again, like in the old days... And I'd love to sew, even though I haven't been near a machine for years and will need help at first.

Now off to cook. I've turned into Cooking Mama lately. I hardly ever eat what I cook, but I sure spend a lot of time in my kitchen !

I'm thinking of selling my redhead KB with bangs, my Cinnamon Girl, my Last Kiss & maybe My Best Friend.

Now, all I need is some spare time to take photos, make packages, etc. That part isn't exactly easy...

I managed to ransack a few stores last sunday...

And I found these at 50% off. I bought pink & black kitty face maryjanes and black& white kitty high-tops. They're totally adorable, they reawake the Emily the Strange living in the not-so-remote recesses of my brain.

I also found enough body scrubs, scented oils and body lotions at the Body Shop to last me a year.

And a satin boxer robe with a Snoopy on the back at H&M as well as 15 or so Snoopy thongs in assorted colors. And Snoopy short pjs. And Snoopy bras.

And a denim skirt & beautiful jacket with a broad colar and a funky pattern at H&M as well.

Stuff for the house as well. Little gifts for various friends.

And I saved a Diddlina (the mouse with the giant feet for those who might not have heard from her) at the Megastore. The poor thing had been stepped on and was dirty. I asked for a discount and blurted out I wanted to, erm, rescue her from her fate or something. They gave me said-discount and I'm surprised they didn't sign me for a shock treatment program at cut price too.

I also found the last pair of not-too stone washed boot cut size 0 jeans at the Gap. You never have enough pairs of jeans me thinks.

Surprisingly, 80% of my loot hasn't even been unpacked. Who said the sales was more about buying than appreciating what you buy ?

If I wasn't swamped in various urgent jobs, I'd feel guilty about spending, oops, saving so much.
